Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
